Originally from Southern California, Dr. Openshaw received his Masters and Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Purdue University in Indiana. On internship he helped military veterans with spinal cord injuries and other serious injuries requiring rehabilitation. He also focused on working with couples, and received extensive training in couples therapy. He worked with one of the founders of the UCLA Human Sexuality Program, at the Institute for Sex and Marital Therapy, learning to help couples with their intimate difficulties.
Before moving to Hawai'i, he practiced as a Clinical Psychologist in Fullerton, California. He continued to work with couples and had a general psychotherapy practice for many years. He was actively involved in various roles with St. Jude Medical Center in Fullerton for 30 years, and was a member of the Medical Staff until 2013. Dr. Openshaw lived happily in Hawai'i for six years and worked with our armed services as a Clinical Health Psychologist, first embedded with four different Marine battalions, including Infantry, Artillery and Intelligence Battalions, and then at Tripler Army Medical Center developing their Oncology Psychology programs.
Dr. Openshaw is retired and and soon will live in Boquete, Panama.
